It was recorded sometime between 1927 and 1931 in or near Ashe County, North Carolina. Thanks for posting this- love the song. My kids and I have been listening to the Carolina Chocolate Drops version and were looking for the words. We've just sat in the car and watched the vid- great to hear such an early version of the song.
